Puy Du Fou, 2016.
La Dernier Panache
Every couple of years Puy Du Fou creates a new show and this year ‘La Dernier Panache’ is the newest addition to ‘The Grand Parc’.
Described as a technical master piece for stage and cinema its mixes live performances with films using real stage sets and visual effects in a 7500m2 theatre.
The moving ‘Theatre of Giants’ seats 2400 people and cost over eighteen million euros to build. Throughout the show the audience slowly rotates around the different stages.
La Dernier Panache is thirty three minutes long and describes the life of François Athanase de Charette de la Contrie who became known as General Charette. The show tells his life story beginning with his studies at the Marine School Guards in Brest, follows him through his naval battles in the American War of Independence (where he fought alongside La Fayette), shows how his life was turned upside down with the French Revolution, his final battle for freedom in 1793 during the Vendee civil war – when ‘over 5000 Peasants fighters’ asked him to lead them into battle, before concluding with his capture and execution by firing squad in Nantes in 1796.
Puy Du Fou is one hour drive from Camping L’Oceano d’Or in Jard Sur Mer and tickets, which are 10% cheaper if booked online beforehand (puydufou.com), cost €37 for adults, €26 for children (5yrs – 13yrs) and children under five are free.
